Women's Tennis Defeats Samford, 6-1

Memphis, Tenn.-- - The University of Memphis women's tennis team defeated Samford University in their third match in three days, 6-1, Sunday. The Lady Tigers finished with a 2-1 record in three consecutive days of competition.
The doubles duo of Christina Ladyman and Sabrina Lindemann defeated the Samford team of Stanka Ilkova/Gretchen Misner, 8-0 in the only doubles match played. Both Lady Tigers also won their respective singles matches--Ladyman winning at No. 1 over Stanka Ilkova, 6-2, 6-1, while Lindemann defeated Susie Carlberg, 6-0, 6-1.
Betsy Card, Claire O'Donoghue and freshman Sumitra Rao also won their singles matches. Card defeated Gretchen Misner, 6-1, 6-1, while O'Donoghue defeated Tara Tiller, 6-0, 6-2.
Rao downed her opponent, Lauren O'Steen, 6-3, 6-4, for her fourth singles win against two losses, the best singles record of any Lady Tiger (.667 winning percentage).
Courtney Collins (Nashville, TN/Franklin Road Academy) accounted for the Bulldogs' lone point, coming back to defeat Angie Wilkinson, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
The Lady Tigers leave for Phoenix, Ariz. to again participate in three matches in three days. Memphis will face Northern Arizona, San Jose State and Weber State, Feb. 17-19th.
