Irvine, Calif.-- -
The University of Memphis men's tennis team (7-6, 1-2) will participate
in a 13-team tournament at California-Irvine, beginning at 9 a.m. (Pacific
Time), Thursday, against Northern Arizona.
The winner of that match will play Tennessee Tech, which received a first-round
bye, at 1:30 p.m., Friday. The set-up of the UC-Irvine Anteater Classic is
similar to the way the Conference USA tournament is set up in that the
teams are put into a bracket and then whether they advance or fall into the
losers bracket depends on the team score, not the individual match scores.
Other participating schools include Jacksonville, Sacramento State, Northern
Arizona, Tennessee Tech, Illinois State, Idaho State, Southwest Missouri
State, Southern Mississippi, Denver, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Pacific
in addition to the Tigers and host UC-Irvine.
In other action Thursday, Jacksonville will face Sacramento State, while
Denver plays Texas A&M-CC, all at 9 a.m. Illinois State and Idaho State
will face off at 1:30 p.m., while SW Missouri State and C-USA foe Southern
Miss also square off at 1:30 p.m.
