Outlook for 2008: Coaches are anxious to see if Tyler can take the next step forward after becoming the Tigers everyday leftfielder at the end of 2007. Should be more comfortable in leftfield and allow his offensive skills to continue to shine.
2007 (Freshman): Was Memphis's first option off the bench before being inserted into the starting lineup in the Marshall series...Made 22 starts (19 in leftfield, two in rightfield and one in centerfield) as a true freshman...Solidified himself as the everyday leftfielder after hitting .315 over the next eight games...Was 4-for-9 (.444) with three runs scored in the NCAA Tournament...Was 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Nashville Regional game vs. Michigan (6/1/07)...Was 10-for-26 (.385) with seven runs scored and three RBI in the 2007 postseason...Hit safely in six of the Tigers' seven post season contests... Prep: Lettered four years in baseball for University of Memphis graduate, Justin Cousar...Also earned two letters on the gridiron as a tight end and middle linebacker at Munford High School...Saw action in the outfield, at third base, and behind the plate in his prep career but will primarily be an outfielder with the Tigers...Slammed eight homers and hit .470 in his final prep campaign...Earned all-district honors and led Munford to a 20-20 finish in 2006...Hit .458 with six home runs, 28 RBI, nine doubles, three triples, and eight stolen bases as a junior...Hit over 20 home runs and drove in over 80 runs in his high school career...2005 Baseball Player of the Year by the Covington Leader...Helped MHS to back-to-back District and Regional Championships in 2003 and 2004...Led 2003 Cougars to a 25-16-1 mark and a 2003 TSSAA Class AAA State Runner-up finish...Was a three-time All-District honoree...Earned All-region accolades in 2004 and 2005.
